We like to teach in a way that presents ideas and structures illustrated by particular movements. We strive for a balance of ideas and experience so that the brain and the body both get a chance to explore the topic. While we offer a number of music specific topics, all of our classes incorporate music as an integral facet.

Musicality Seminar

Anatomy of a tango (for dancers)
top level structure for a classic tango (vocal style) 20 minutes
goal: shape the dance through the musical form - build a tango
orchestral textures: marcato, legato, (syncopa), - walk, turn, cut 30 minute
goal: recognize and respond to dominant texture in the music
different orchestras: push vs. pull in the marcato, endings, style 45-60 minutes
goal: dance differently uniquely to each orchestra.

Music in the moment
phrasing and cadence - dancing 8's and ebb + flow in melodic (vocal) lines 60 minutes
goal: connecting to the feeling of the music. anti-auto pilot. (enganging followers)
articulation - the texture of each movement - musical decisions, 45 minutes
goal: hi-defintion tango
(Special moments: corte, variacion, canyengue, rubato, glissandi and other musical effects,
goal: spontaneity and creativity)
